Red Hot + Rio 2

“The Red Hot Organization, which raises money and awareness for the fight against AIDS, will release a sequel to its 1996 Red Hot + Rio compilation, the double-disc Red Hot + Rio 2.”

This compilation is a tribute to the Brasilian Tropicalismo movement of the 1960s.
I am especially fond of this movement. Definitely going to purchase this CD once it releases on June 28th.

Thrilled to see collaborations performed among notable musicians. I can’t wait to hear the products of these artists’ already established styles (ranging everywhere from hip-hop to electronica) mixed in with the innovative sounds from the Tropicalismo movement. it’s going to be interesting. So many artists that I love, including some rad brasileiros. A lot of the songs are in Portuguese, a big plus, along with covers of legendary favorites such as Tom Jobim’s “Águas de Março”.
The song ‘Tropicália’ by Beck is one of my favorites of his, and I believe that the version on this album is a rendition with Seu Jorge, a well known Brasileiro to the rest of the world. Ah!

Native Son – The Track, The Train, The Traveler (dir. Isaac Rentz)

Isaac Rentz’s art installation for Native Son as part of their presentation at NYC Fashion Week 2011.

So cool.

3 creative perspectives on one project.

I am proud of you, Los Angeles.

It’s obvious that Los Angeles is an inconvenient place to live if a bicycle is your only mode of transportation. In fact that’ll make it nearly impossible to get around with ease.
It might not be the most bike-friendly city, but hey, but they’re trying! I’m proud to see this that this progress and effort finally became more widespread in this city, especially after living away from LA and in a biking community for some time.

On April 11, 2011, CicLAvia held an event to promote bicycling as a conventional and comfortable means of transportation in this enormous and scattered city. Streets were closed off to motor vehicles, allowing bikers to dominate the roads.

Wish I was there for this. I miss LA culture.

Signature

Just rewatched The Darjeeling Limited (2007) directed by Wes Anderson. I love that he is a true auteur–his distinctive style is apparent in a heartbeat.

Look at these 2 shots from The Darjeeling Limited and from Rushmore (1998).

These films were produced almost 10 years apart from each other, yet they both encompass the same signature Wes Anderson shot. I am a big fan of his still shots that bring attention to the moving body part, though it is not the main focus of the shot.
Creating your own style is one thing, preserving it is another.

‘Is This Really Happening’?

Thom Yorke & Four Tet (and can’t forget Burial)  collaborate. Flying Lotus and Thom Yorke have already collaborated on Cosmogramma.

So close to having the perfect ambient, electronica, trip-hop/whatever you want to call it collaboration….
